Why work with us for full school neuropsychological testing?
One difference between working with us as compared to others is that we follow up with you after testing is completed. We want to help make sure your testing was understood and has helped you make decisions to help your child and family. This is a small sample of the news that parents’ reported after testing (child’s name removed or replaced with X).
The thoroughness of your neuropsych evaluations and reports for my child have really been a blessing for him as they were able to introduce him to the college with some key items from your report in place to help make the transition to college. Thanks for all your help over the years for our kids.
I want to thank you, once again, for the evaluation you conducted with my son at the beginning of this school year. It has been very beneficial to know that he struggles with dyslexia and dysgraphia. He has benefited greatly from reading pull out at school. So much so that he is now reading chapter books and keeping up with his peers in the 2nd grade and no longer needs pull-out instruction in the area of reading. His teacher informed me that he is now needing Occupational Therapy to help with his writing because of the dysgraphia. His writing is very slow in speed and he quickly tires and gets to the point of frustration. His letter formations are becoming more and more inconsistent in size and they are starting to move on the lines. His writing looked better 2 years ago, which is definitely something we are working on.
You have been an amazing guide in this process. I will forever be thankful. Fun piece of information….. my best friends father is a retired dr from NY…. I shared Xs report with him to read over when I was in a panic. He sent that report to discuss with Professionals in NYC to get some advice on where to go. They all said how impressed they were with your report. The professionals advise…. Read back thru you report and focus on a lot on the amazing tips you have in there. Both my husband and I re read again and realize we haven’t done EVERYTHING you suggested. They suggested to reach back out to you and find a child psychologist to work with…. So, THANK YOU.
Since we last met, we were able to secure X’s spot at the school. They have so many things in place for him to thrive. Everything you recommended has already been established at this school. I cannot thank you enough for your evaluation and recommendations. X has been receiving good notes every day since he started and although he has small hiccups throughout the day it is nothing that the school has not been able to help and redirect. I am praying that this continues because it is a good environment for learning. They took your evaluation and have adapted it to everything as well. Again, thank you. It has changed everything for the better for him and us.
My ultimate goal is to get my daughter all the help she needs to be successful and to try and move her on to the first grade. So, yes, your reports have been extremely helpful in this process. I am so happy we came to you and had the evaluation. It was the key we needed to unlock the door; so to speak.
Having a handle now on what are X’s fine strengths and also on her challenges gives us much hope for the upcoming school year and beyond. Because of your professional skill and care, we now have the tools we need to help teachers support X in ways that will help her grow into the woman God designed her to be. We also have what we need to parent in ways that may help her relax and thrive. What a gift! We are deeply, deeply grateful!
Thank you for following up with X. X now has a 504 plan for all testing in school and they are evaluating him (Lang Processing) with the language-speech specialist at the school to see if he will qualify for an IEP. It just takes time because of the list of children that need to be tested. X is going 2 days a week for reading-comprehension tutoring. He has the Wii game to help with memory. I bought one of those stress balls for him to use to try to help with focusing during his math lessons. The teacher has recently told me that during math lessons lately she can tell he is daydreaming and not listening half way into her math lesson. So we will give it a try and see if it helps. I have talked to his teacher in being more patient and understanding with him.
I haven’t told X anything about his difficulties, I just tell him that some people just have to take their time and work a little harder. Do you feel that is the right approach at this age? I just worry about his self esteem. If there is anything you think I am missing, please let me know because knowledge is power and could use all the help in helping X. I will definitely get the books for X you recommended. Thank you again Dr. Forgan
I wanted to forward this email to you and to let you know how appreciative we are of your help with XX. This email is from his math teacher, and its the third email from one of his teachers this semester, letting us know about all the positive changes XX has been demonstrating at school. As you know, XX was really struggling in school at the beginning of the year and he had truly lost his love of learning. At the time, I also didn’t realize how much self confidence he had lost. Your diagnosis of ADHD and our subsequent decision to treat him with Adderall has truly changed his direction in life. We were hesitant to medicate, but after discussing it with XX pediatrician, doing a lot of our own research, and speaking to other parents with children who have ADHD, we decided to give it a try. We saw immediate improvements in not only his schoolwork, but most importantly his self confidence and his interest in learning. We are truly so amazed at the positive changes. Thank you so much for helping us through this.
Hello Dr. Forgan, Thank you for your follow up email. We submitted X’s testing to her Guidance Counselor and it was submitted to College Boards. We were informed that X will receive 100% additional time when she takes the SAT. We will now submit her testing so that she may also receive accommodations on the ACT. Thanks for your help in updating her testing so that she may receive her much needed accommodations and continue to be successful in school.
Thank you so much for following up! He is doing well. Still going thru the Susan Barton tutoring program. We are getting there slowly but surely. Happy to say he has a 5th grade teacher who understands his disabilities (as she has a son with very similar disabilities) and works with him very well. Also getting him ready for middle school. Just had a meeting with ESE dept last week. He is doing better. Thanks again
I hope you and you family had a great summer. I wanted to let you know that X has received extra time on all SAT and AP testing. She spent the summer at X College on a summer scholarship doing what she does best – creating!! Thank you for everything
The school guidance counselor is who started the 504 based on what your report stated. They started him with a tutor after school twice a week, which has helped him tremendously. So they actually are working with us to get the help he needs. It was a little bit of a struggle when the school psychologist was involved, but they have since eliminated her from the meetings. So, all in all everything is good.
Thanks so much for the email. My child has been working 2 hours per week with the teacher at school and every Friday for an hour with his tutor. He’s making good progress.
In regards to the report with your recommendations that we gave them, it did not work out well. Much to our disappointment, the “team” at his former school didn’t want to accommodate him in any other manner than what they viewed as fitting. As a result, we started looking into other schools that might be a better fit for him and our family and I am happy to say that he started at a new school last week and has been flourishing these past couple days. We are hoping for good things at the new school. We are also starting play therapy this week as well and we’ve been reading your book that you gave us. It’s a new year with a new start and a happy, positive little boy. It’s going to be work, but we as a family are up to the challenge and excited to help out our little buddy.
Actually, he has started a new school and no longer at the old school. This change occurred the few days after meeting with you. Since the change he has had no issues in the teacher’s class and is reading and doing math well. He has passed his level B reading test and his behavior has not been an issue. Thanks for checking in.
Thank you for checking in she is doing outstanding all A’s and B’s… She is loving the feeling of confidence and we couldn’t be happier to see her succeeding. Thank you so much.
Things are going well. We did not change teachers, but we did start medication and behavioral therapy. He is responding very well to both! He’s taking Focalin once a day. The behavior therapist has been wonderful, she wrote up a behavior plan that both his teacher and the administration have copies of and we love the programs she is using with him. Thanks for keeping in touch!
We are starting reading tutoring twice a week tomorrow. We met with the tutor last week and I am very optimistic that it will go well. We also just took a long weekend vacation to VT, and he was in heaven. He was so at peace and calm and completely in his element there…. and outside the whole time.
Thank you for following up on X. As of now she is doing extremely well and has straight ‘A’s. We can tell she is feeling much better and more confident with herself.
Thank you for your thoughtful email. X and X are both doing good and have seen the tutor all summer and are continuing to see her two times a week after school. One son has finished the Wilson program and isn’t currently with the tutor but we will probably start him one time a week here soon. Thank you again I hope all is well with you.
Hello Dr. Forgan. X’s teacher states that he is starting to open up and is starting to talk to the other kids. She says that he is doing well. X’s ESE teacher states that the times that she is in the classroom she sees him on task. Even though I am proud of him of the feedback from the teachers and the demonstration of control on his part, I still feel that it is too early in the school year. We met with the ESE chairperson and the ESE teacher about a week before school started (next IEP meeting will be on X and all teachers and therapists should be present). The goals still need to be updated/reviewed with the therapists but they listed all the accommodations that you recommended for him and are cooperative with them. Thanks for your interest, care, and your professional/personal insight.
Hello. We have him on the program at school that you suggested with “X.” We also completed the eye exam with Dr. Shim and her results came back very similar to yours in regards with classroom suggestions. He has some eye concerns that she would like to address with some therapy in her office to help strengthen his vision. He has not put up any resistance to the new therapy that he is doing. Although if we let him, he will use the diagnosis as a crutch. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Thanks so much for contacting us. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was waiting to the end of the first quarter to update you on his grades. He was failing two classes with a week to go in the quarter and I must say using the tools you gave us, we were able to work with him and get him to pull his grades up. He wound up with a D in Math, but we are getting him a tutor. His teacher this year is aware of his findings from your report and she is working with him. He is still showing low self esteem and lack of confidence. I am still considering taking him to a counselor. Thanks so much for your help.
She is doing better, but it is a long road as you know.
Hi there — The Adderall has helped a lot. His focus has significantly increased. Downside is he was developing a very noticeable neck tic (like he was craning his neck) and severe, night time neck pain. Dropped him to 5-7mg. Tic is very mild now. Ability to concentrate still strong. Grades are Bs and As; very willing to do homework at night. All in all, so far, so good. Thanks for checking in.
I am sorry for the delay in responding but the past few weeks have been a blur. Our summer was good but very busy. I think I put too much travel in this summer. We saw our pediatrician and he strongly recommended trying medication. X has been on Focalin XR for about 1 1/2 months. He seems to be tolerating it well.
He is still working with the therapist, however it hasn’t been consistent. With a death in her family and school breaks it hasn’t been a weekly basis. So to answer your question on how he is doing, I really haven’t seen a great improvement. His test scores have not improved greatly. He is averaging a 78% in his reading tests. The teacher has made modifications to his homework. Last week we had a meeting at school and it was suggested trying to give him the tests in sections so he doesn’t feel so overwhelmed and he still scored a C. We definitely spend enough time on his homework and studying that I don’t understand why his grades are not reflecting his efforts. If you have another plan, I’d be willing to listen.
School has been good for him. He is doing really good and trying very hard. He is not throwing fits about his homework any more and so far it seems very manageable. He has been able to learn his spelling words as well as his Bible verse. All of his grades were A’s and B’s until we went away for the week of Labor Day. He has struggled with the make up tests. I won’t be scheduling things that require him to miss school any more. His behavior at school has been good and the teacher said he is adjusting nicely. Thank you for all you have done because I do feel that he is a happier child and not struggling so much.
He is doing well. He has continued working with Wilson. We read his novel together, he types many assignments, and he is exempt from Spanish! He will also receive more time on the upcoming TEST! Thank you for your help. X’s sister even noticed how much better his reading has gotten! He has also been able to spell things (correctly) when she needs help with her homework. Needless to say, his confidence is improving, as well. It seems that the little things we are implementing are helping everything “click”..
Hi, Good news. X and X both were accepted into Bak, thank you for following up with me. Let’s talk about what we need to have to prepare an IEP for X. Let me know what we should do next. Mrs. S
He seems to be doing much better. His grades for last semester were good and he is going to school much easier. I am looking forward to a great close to this year. Thanks so much for your help!
Thanks for following up. He is doing well. He is going 2x a week for tutoring and that seems to be going well. I also shared the report with his teacher and she is submitted to the vice principal so he can get extra time when they do the “Iowa” standardized test that they do. I am supposed to have a meeting with her and the V.P. but that hasn’t happened yet. He got the first 9 weeks report card a few weeks ago – actually he had just started tutoring when he got it and it was so good I had a conference with his teacher because I was confused!! He got “M” (mastery) in every subject, even all the reading categories. When I met with her she told me he is reading “on second grade level” so she had to give him an “M”. Not that I want him to do poorly but I expected him to not get the highest grade you can get in reading and even in reading comprehension. When I look at your testing data it seems to agree that he is reading on second grade level but since he should be in 3rd grade his percentile scores are lower because they are based on his age, not his grade. But since he is not in third grade should he be expected to read on third grade level? It seems odd that he needs reading help but gets the highest score you can get on his report card. I don’t disagree that he needs help. He is clearly not a great reader. And he clearly has a processing disorder (dyslexia) but he seems to function fairly well in spite of it. He is definitely improving and he is much better one on one than in a group mostly because he is so distracted in a group. I also have been reading the book “Understanding Dyslexia” which is helping me a lot. A lot of it describes him exactly. I haven’t gotten through the whole thing but am working on it.
As far as the ADHD component goes he keeps the hyperness pretty much under control, the older he gets the better and some days are better than others. I try to keep his diet free of extra sugar, dye, etc. and I give him multi vitamins and omega 3’s. I think the bigger problem is the lack of focus when doing tasks he doesn’t like. But his teacher keeps it interesting and gets his attention when he is drifting (I get to see this because I volunteer in the class on Wednesday mornings). She will direct him back to what she is doing to keep him engaged. Thank you.
Thank you kindly for following up. We feel they both are doing relatively well. We met again with her teacher, and she seems to understand and be sensitive to some of the difficulties X is having at this time. X seems to be feeling better about school in general, which is most important to us. She got (3) B’s, and (2) C’s on her report card. Despite the drastic change from mostly A’s and a couple of B’s last year, given the major workload we feel this is the best she could have done at this point. We are proud of how hard she has worked. I suspect this trimester will be better because we’ve made some adjustments. We are still making decisions about where she will be attending school next year.
Thank you for all your guidance, and for following up with us. We feel it has better equipped us with some additional tools, and given us a better understanding of our kids personal struggles by having had them evaluated/re-evaluated. We hope you and your family have a peaceful holiday season and a blessed new year as well.
We have shared the report with the pediatrician and the teachers at school. The MD will be writing a script for language therapy once she is back in town next week. She is also trying to find a good therapist near our area, if not then we will take her to the ones that you referred.
So nice to hear from you. We are in the process of meeting with all of his teachers one on one, to inform them of his condition and struggles. He is certainly trying hard, but falling short in specific areas: organization being first and foremost. But we are both hopeful, and feel he is the best school, with some fantastic teachers that all want to see him succeed! We will definitely keep you posted, and let you know if we feel the need to see you again. Thank you for your concern!
Thank you for the follow up! X… is doing great! The school is very accommodating and her teachers have made the recommended modification to suit X’s needs. As far as progress, she is the same sweet happy person. I don’t believe she is worse or better than before, but she takes her vitamins every day. Thanks again for checking with us! We appreciate the follow up.
Hey there! Sorry it took me so long to answer…. It’s been a busy summer so far! He finished well… 4A’s and 3B’s! We do the workbooks over the summer and he has summer reading to complete for school as well. We are also seeing the counselor for social counseling and for us as well in parental guidance in ADHD. We are staying put for now until our daughter finishes college. (2 years). Thanks for checking in… Have a great summer.
Thank you for your continued interest in X. He actually finished up the school year very nicely. We worked with him a lot on the big brain academy, and playing other types of games like Scatergories. His teachers also pitched in and we all saw improvement.
X is working with a tutor twice a week at school. The school was good about arranging that and although he initially felt funny about leaving class, his teacher and I have both worked to make him feel better about it. I believe his teacher is making a few allowances when she grades his work but overall he seems to be doing fairly well in school. He is willing to read out loud at home so that is good too.
I need to begin thinking about what would be the best plan for this summer. Do you know of any camps that would be helpful to him? In our old area we could have sent him to the Lindamood Bell center but I don’t know what is available here. Thanks again for checking in.
Happy New Year, Dr. Forgan. I did verify that the Palm Tran will accept a signed form from you instead of a medical doctor. Our concerns with using the regular bus system is that she does not comprehend directions, nor can she follow verbal or written instructions well. Needless to say, she also forgets where she is going at times! Thank you for helping us in this situation. We are already seeing progress with X!
I appreciate very much how you work with X and your comments about him today. It is very encouraging to hear your view on X’s work ethic. I think it would be very helpful to have a letter from you to include in our applications for high school. Thank you for your willingness to take the time to validate his hard work and recommend him in a letter. .
Thank you for the follow up email. We made a family decision this summer and moved back to Palm Beach County. X is attending Independence Middle School. So far (despite all the schedule changes on their part), X is doing well. The transition has been difficult going from a small private school to a large public school but he is doing well academically. We couldn’t schedule an appointment with his guidance counselor until his teachers had a chance to evaluate him but his dad and I plan on doing that in the next week. We’ll keep you posted. Thanks again for following up.
X is doing well. I have found that giving him more structure around his school tasks, especially the subjects he does not like such as Language Arts, is enabling him to accomplish them with less frustration. By structure I mean a schedule with time constraints for each task with short breaks between tasks. It’s a time management technique our software development teams use to maintain focus while building large systems. I’ve seen small changes in his general behavior, for the better, in the last couple weeks. We are working with X at Counseling Associates where he goes for counseling and treatments twice a week. Hope all is well with you and your family as well.
Thank you for your email! X is doing OK in school. At this time, I do not have any questions. My husband & I have enrolled X in 2 programs at school that we hope are helpful this year. We have him working with X for 2 40-min one on one sessions in the NILD program and 4 – 20 min Rhythmic writing session. We have also signed him up for the X Program that the school offers. The work load is heavy for him in 4th grade and we are all adjusting, however, we are hoping to reevaluate at the end of the school year to see what else needs to be done. I will store your email for reference in case I need Mrs. X for anything in the future. Thanks for checking in!
X is doing very well in High School so far. We are proud of her efforts, being five weeks into the year and caring “A”s in all her classes. As soon as our schedule settles into a routine I have to get her appt with X and other support. We may also follow up with Ms. X since she is an ADHD coach.
Thank you for the follow up. X is settling in at school. I have meet with his teachers one on one and also with X, the 504 coordinator and a plan has been implemented for him. He had a few weeks of getting marks on his chart for effort and organization of material supplies i.e., bringing right materials to class they have 2 teachers and switch classrooms in 4th grade. We are fine tuning his medication while trying to maintain a healthy diet to grow on. This week he has been doing really well receiving ex which means he is exceeding expectations. I did purchase the play therapy book online and we are doing 1 page a day with homework. That is our progress thus far. If we do opt for counseling or tutoring it will have to be after first of year for financial reasons. Could you please follow up with us then and we can reevaluate at that point what our next step is. I am happy to report X seems very happy and jokes and talks with me as we walk into school in the morning vs last year he would dread it and tell me he hated school. FYI PB county library does not have the book u recommended I read. I will order it on line.
Thank you very much for following up. Unfortunately X has had an unrelated stomach issue. She is fine but we haven’t been able to implement some of the suggestions as yet. We did begin her on medication but had to take her off as we had to rule that out as a factor in her stomach problems. She hasn’t been well enough to attend summer camp with any regularity so she has been with us and friends. We signed her up for one week and she only attended days and was home with me the other 2. As such, we haven’t had the same issues since she isn’t in a classroom situation. We will be meeting with her new teacher as soon as school restarts and implement a 504 plan for her. Thank you again for all of your help.
Thanks for getting in touch. We are working 2x a week with the tutor. He is also doing a Lindamood Bell summer program. His teacher said he made progress in the second half of he year- his grades were all Bs and As which we were happy with, especially given his challenges. His spelling is still dreadful but hopefully that will continue to improve. His self esteem is still low and we need to find an activity or sport he can enjoy and excel at because right now he doesn’t want to do anything. Other than that he seems to be adjusting fairly well. I would like to speak with your new counselor as I am still overwhelmed sometimes with what would be best for him.
Hello Dr. Forgan I apologize for just getting back to you…I had a meeting with the school and so far they have been very accommodating. X started tutoring last week so far she has had around 4 sessions with him and the teachers have already commented on how it’s helped X leaps and bounds.. the tuor is meeting with X 90 min. per week per your request….. So far things seem to be clicking along…Thank you so much for checking in on our progress we will stay in close contact with you. Many Thanks.
Dr. Forgan, Thank you so much for all your help. We were successful on getting the GMAT accommodations for X. See below! Have a great summer. And again thank you very much.
We have acted on several of your suggestions for helping X. Many of them were able to be carried out at home and with his continued help at the Reading Center. He has made progress with her, but loses it quickly if we scale back to less than three days a week. His private school read your report and wanted to comply, but the staff simply isn’t trained to handle his challenges, and the Abeka curriculum, while some aspects could work well for him, is presented in such a fast-paced manner that he quickly fell behind. The public school is very pleasant, but will not accept any attempt at the collection of data points for an IEP if they are not from a public school. It sounds like this is their way of maintaining “quality control.” We have serious concerns about sending him to our local public school. We began homeschooling after the Christmas break, but I acknowledge that I don’t have the insight into his disabilities that is needed to move him forward. We are at a loss for what to do next year, between a rock and a hard place regardless of where we take him..
Thank you so much for checking in. X has been doing therapy twice a week since December. His current school has also made all the accommodations that were recommended. His current teacher reports that she has seen progress in X. He still has his struggles, but he is working hard to achieve his goals.
Thank you for your follow up. My husband and I both feel the testing results were very helpful in addressing X’s needs. We have used those results to work with the school so they can implement strategies to help him succeed. He is getting additional help with a tutor who is pleased with his participation. I would love to check out your new book as I’m sure every kid could use solutions to manage stress. Thank you for sharing that.
Hi there, X switched to X school for this half of the year back in January. She absolutely loves it. They were giving her time to adjust to the new school and are just now getting her into a program for tutoring with reading. They have your report thus I would expect they would reach out to you as needed. Thank you for your follow up and I will keep you updated on her progress!
We are doing great… got X the 504 and a Wilson tutor that she is going to twice a week and she’s doing great thanks. I recommended you to my friend for testing.
I hope you are doing well. I did get X in with a tutor, Vanessa. They meet twice a week. She has been great and X is coming along. The report was shared with Franklin Academy. We have spent the past 10 or so months doing RTI and just had an IEP eligibility meeting. It was determined that X is eligible for an IEP. Do you ever attend IEP meetings? Hope you and your family have a great weekend.
We battled with PBCSD but got all the accommodations he needs. Specially the multi sensory reading which was a struggle to get. We finally signed off in the IEP the last day of school! So hopefully it will be good for day one to start! This summer he did an online OG program Dyslexia Connect I highly recommend it! He did it two to three times a week with an additional tutor to carry over strategies and work on self esteem. His progress measured end of second grade approaching third. So he did not “summer slide” he’s almost on grade level! Yahoo! As far as spelling and writing that’s another obstacle. Baby steps! Thank you for the follow up! It means a lot! We are hoping for a better school year now that we know how to help meet his needs!
After our meeting in which I found helpful, I contacted X’s principal and had a meeting that Monday. He himself is ADHD along with his daughter so I found a sense of relief in that. The school IEP coach is back in school this week and I will be following up with her to start X’s new IEP plan. Along with that we have started X on medication and now we’re just trying to fine-tune it before school starts. I think we off to a good start but I will always feel like I’m not doing enough.
Hi Dr. Forgan, We are continuing with neurofeedback and have a meeting with Dr. Lui (neurologist specializing in ADHD). In the meantime I have started him back on the X to help with school that will start on a few weeks. We are continuing to see X for counseling. Thank you so much for your follow up and help!
I shared X’s evaluation with her school and it has proven to be extremely helpful. She is enrolled in their academic support program and they are making accommodations for her. Thank you again for your help.
After my husband and I met with you about X’s results, I called three of the tutors off the list of recommended tutors. Mrs. C was the first to call me back and we set up a first session for X. She has been fantastic and just who X needed to move forward. We have just completed our 8th week of tutoring twice a week. X is finishing lesson 3.5 of Wilson Reading and doing really well! Her confidence is growing and she is not as stressed out about school. She had a wonderful first week and is very excited about 4th grade. We are all very thankful that God led us to having her tested and that we were able to use your expertise to set a course that would be helpful and successful towards X’s future. Thank you!
Good morning! All the balls are rolling in the right direction. The school is working on initial 504 meeting. I have a initial parent appointment with X for ADD therapy today. X has several books on ADD to read. His pediatrician put him on X.As far as school, he is having the same problems but keeping his grades up. I am hopeful therapy will help with this area. We may adjust medication as well in the future.Thank you for all your help!!! I have referred your name to a few friends if they decide to get a comprehensive evaluation!!! We continue to pray that God puts the right people and professionals in X’s journey in life.
Thank you for following up. is doing good. We are working with Dr. X. Also, X is on medication and the school gave him the 504 plan that allows him to move in class, get some extra time if he needs it and reduce assignments. Taking one day at a time. Thank you again.
School is going good so far and he started all his services this week. Unfortunately I can’t say we’re doing as good at home. we’ve changed up his medication but that as shown not to help. I’m back to the drawing board today with his pediatrician. We seem to be dealing with more tantrums and emotional meltdowns over the small stuff. Needless to say it’s taking a toll. I think it’s time to possibly have him seen by a therapist I’m not sure if a mood stabilizer would help him. For this afternoon meltdowns are definitely affecting his outside therapy. I’ve decided to give them a break from private therapy for a few weeks since he is getting it in school. I’m hoping that partially this is just the adjustment to a new school routine wake up time etc.
Thank you for following up. I shared the report with the school and they implemented a 504 plan for X. They are saying they cannot create an IEP for him because they need to accumulate “data” (using the RTI) over a specific amount of time and based on those results, he will need to be evaluated by their psychologist. It doesn’t look like he will be able to obtain one this academic year.We started tutoring sessions using the Wilson Reading system and will start incorporating math with the same tutor. I have Math U See at home that was left over from the homeschool curriculum I purchased, but I find the blocks are more of a distraction and they end up getting played with like Legos. I’m looking into other options.
Thanks for following up, sorry for taking a while to reply it’s been busy lately. X is almost done with second grade, only this time the goals from the IEP were not met either in math or reading, according to the school psychologist she is at grade level for reading, however the teacher doesn’t share this opinion. I submitted your report to the school psychologist in January, she said she would review it and do her testing and get back to us, she only finished the testing a week ago, and concluded: learning disability for math and problems with short term working memory. We had a meeting with the school last week to prepare the IEP for next year( as usual it was frustrating because a couple of people arrive late and unprepared, we can see that they have not have time to communicate between each other and are trying to get organized there). We have decided that X will go to the Homeschool, which we love and are thrilled to have found such a great change in our lives. The space is beautiful and bright, currently there are 12 kids homeschooling, they go from 8:30-2:00, and its personalized, they learn how to work independently and the curriculum is tailored to their needs and interests. The teachers are extremely prepared in the field and they come in to teach Math, Science and Spanish, they use an online program to do art. The director is is an amazing person who genuinely cares about the academic progress of each student.
Good morning. Yes the report is very helpful and something that feels like it was overdue. I did share the report with his school and have had several meetings. I have chosen to continue his speech and tutoring at school so he can remain at camp this summer. His speech therapist uses the Lindamood bell system and they know how to tutor him between your report and a test he took in Kindergarten.Thank you very much for everything!
