Palm Beach Florida Gifted Classes

As a licensed school psychologist in private practice, I test children for the Palm Beach Schools (Florida) Gifted Programs.  Geographically, your child can be in a gifted program or class within the areas of Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, and Jupiter.  Not every school in the Palm Beach school district has gifted programs so sometimes children are reassigned to a school with a full time gifted program.  I test kids for gifted classes from all areas of Palm Beach, Florida and even up to Stuart, Florida and Port St. Lucie, Florida.  School districts in the northern counties do not have gifted kindergarten programs.

Palm Beach Schools have gifted programs starting in kindergarten.  Thus, many parents have their child tested at the end of his or her pre-k 5 year of school.  Yes, you can test children as young as four for gifted and the premier IQ test is the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence.  This is an individually administered IQ test that taps into a child’s verbal, nonverbal, and information processing speed abilities.  There is no reading or math required on an IQ test.

I’m often asked what the Palm Beach Schools gifted programs require for a child to qualify as gifted.  Schools in the Palm Beach, Florida areas require an IQ of 130 or higher.  They also require advanced reading or math with a score above 90% of same age students.  The third part of the gifted process is one you do.  If your child qualifies then you get his or her teacher to complete a ‘gifted child’ checklist that the teacher fills out.  This validates that your child is creative and working at an advanced level.
